The boomers say goodbye. Those who were born between 1955 and 1970 during the boom years have reached retirement or are among the older generation who are gradually vacating their posts. Boomers are united by the feeling that there are too many of them, which they already felt in overcrowded classrooms and later on the job market. This resulted in an attitude of skepticism, and the experience of AIDS and Chernobyl taught them in a decisive phase of their biography that nothing is certain and nothing is guaranteed. Heinz Bude, an early boomer, describes how this generation is saying goodbye to an attitude to life that has shaped our society for decades.
