documenta lessons: What do you learn when despairing of art
06 / 2025
On June 3, as part of the event series “documenta lessons. Learning from, with and without art”, there will be a discussion with Jörn Peter Budesheim and Michael Flörchinger.
In the Visitors' School 1972 visitors could learn from Bazon Brock that the meaning does not lie in the artwork like the cookie in the box. By this, he aimed to say that the meaning of everything presented at a documenta should not be taken for granted. One has to make an effort and try to make sense of what is shown. In an interview with Michael Flörchinger, Jörn Peter Budesheim talks about his experiences with this slogan. He discusses about the effort it requires, the reward it brings and the despair it means when art cannot be discovered through art.
