As part of the series Vergiftete Verhältnisse - Gespräche zur Gegenwartskunst, Heinz Bude and Andreas Reckwitz will talk about loss as an individual and collective experience on July 19, 2022 at 5 pm at the Forschungsstation am Lutherplatz.

Loss is an inevitable individual and collective experience. Individuals beaten by fate can tell of suffering from what is no longer there, as can the industrial workers of the 20th century or today's people, who have lost all hope of a better future in the face of the climate crisis and fear of war. Accordingly, we struggle with loss. Attempts to contain it lead to its potentiation in other places; deliberate concealment is contrasted with the willing display of loss. In this complex situation, which is difficult to understand, the question of the aesthetics of loss as well as its ethics arises. How and what can we do when everything is threatened by no longer being?

Andreas Reckwitz, geboren 1970, ist Professor für Allgemeine Soziologie und Kultursoziologie an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Sein Buch „Die Gesellschaft der Singularitäten“ wurde 2017 mit dem Bayerischen Buchpreis ausgezeichnet und stand 2018 auf der Shortlist des Sachbuchpreises der Leipziger Buchmesse. Zuletzt veröffentlichte Andreas Reckwitz „Das Ende der Illusionen. Politik, Ökonomie und Kultur in der Spätmoderne“ (2019) sowie zusammen mit Harmut Rosa „Spätmoderne in der Krise. Was leistet die Gesellschaftstheorie?“ (2021). 2019 erhielt er den Leibniz-Preis der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft.
