Felix Vogel on “exergue - on documenta 14” by Dimitris Athiridis

In the current issue of the magazine “Texte zur Kunst” (issue no. 138, June 2025), Felix Vogel has published a review of “Exergue - on documenta 14” by Dimitris Athiridis.

In his review of the documentary, Felix Vogel describes the development of documenta 14 as a complex balancing act between artistic vision and institutional constraints. The film offers a pervasive insight into the challenges and conflicts that accompanied the organization of documenta 14. Athiridis not only documents the process of creating the exhibition, but also raises fundamental questions about the role of art in society. At the same time, Felix Vogel also criticizes the heroic staging of Adam Szymczyk as the main figure, whereby both other actors and the diverse collaborative processes behind the exhibition remain invisible.
