Mi You appointed as new member of Kunst-Werke Berlin e.V.

The KW Institute for Contemporary Art welcomes Mi You as a new member of Kunst-Werke Berlin e.V.!

This was made possible by a project by artist Sung Tieu, who developed a concept as part of her exhibition 1992, 2025 in which the sale of her work Declaration of Donation (2025) finances a five-year membership in the association. At the suggestion of Sung Tieu, Mi You was unanimously confirmed as a new member of the board of Kunst-Werke Berlin e. V.

Declaration of Donation separates the annual membership fee of €5,000 from the membership itself in order to diversify the supporting association and enable participation regardless of socio-economic background or financial hurdles.

The work was created as part of the exhibition Schering Foundation's 2024 Prize for Artistic Research exhibition: Sung Tieu – 1992, 2025. In it, Tieu examines the social, political, and psychological consequences of the collapse of the GDR, especially for Vietnamese contract workers and newly arrived migrants. New works and an accompanying publication shed light on how historical upheavals and persistent racist structures continue to shape the Vietnamese community in Germany to this day.
